New Wānanga Enabling Framework Introduced
The proposed Bill introduces a framework that has been co-designed with Wānanga. The framework recognises the unique offering of Wānanga and the role that iwi had in creating Wānanga.
The framework recognises the unique offering of Wānanga and the role that iwi had in creating Wānanga. It does this by:
- Capturing the characteristics that make Wānanga unique, providing requirements for future Wānanga; and
- Giving existing Wānanga options to change how they operate to better meet their aspirations.

The Bill had its First Reading on Wednesday March 29 2023, and has been referred to Select Committee who will call for submissions.
